Mang Ben

Grandmaster Benjamin Luna Lema was born on March 19th, 1919 in Capiz, Mambusao, on the island of Panay in the Philippines. He is widely recognized throughout the world as one of the foremost Grandmasters of the Filipino martial arts. His power,speed and skill are unequaled.

It was 1937, only five short years before the might of the Japanese Imperial Army would descend upon the Philippines. On Panay a central Visayan island, was a talented group of young Arnisadors. The leader of this group was Benjamin Luna Lema, who would put his already considerable fighting skills to the test in the jungles of the Philippines, fighting the invaders. In fact, Grandmaster Lema had already fought his first real 'challenge' with live steel at seventeen.

Founded by Mang Ben in 1937, Lightning Scientific Arnis is known for it's very powerful and fast use of the baston(stick), often in combination with the dagger.In additionto espada y daga(stick and dagger), Lightning techniques also include double stick, empty hands versus knife and empty hands versus impact weapons as well as pananantukan(Filipino boxing)which utilises low line kicking, elbow strikes,fists,eye jabs and grappling. Grandmaster Lema sadly passed away on January 5th, 2003 in Manila. Lightning Scientiic Arnis in the Philippines is headed by Grandmaster Lema's daughter Ate Patty-Jean Lema Caballero. Lightning continues to grow with schools in Australia, the United States and the U.K, with schools to be open in the near future in Germany.
